Frigatebirds are a family of seabirds called Fregatidae that are found in all tropical and subtropical oceans. Five modern species are classified into one genus, Fregata. All have predominantly black plumage, a long, deeply forked tail and long hooked beaks. Females have a white underbelly, while males have a distinctive red throat sac, which they inflate during the breeding season to attract females. Their wings are long and pointed, and can reach 2.3 meters (7.5 feet) in length, which is the largest wing-to-body ratio of any bird.
