The 2024 silver coin from Cameroon’s “Legacy of the Great Empires” series is dedicated to the Mongol Empire, one of the most powerful states in world history. Emerging in the 13th century under the rule of Genghis Khan, it quickly united vast territories from East Asia to Eastern Europe. The Mongol Empire made history thanks to its outstanding military organization, rapid conquests, and the creation of the largest contiguous land empire in history.

The obverse of the coin depicts Genghis Khan on horseback, in full armor, surrounded by warriors in battle. In the background is a map of the empire’s vast territories, emphasizing the scale of its dominion. The composition is complemented by historical and decorative elements, and at the top is a gilded symbol of the Mongol Empire. The reverse depicts a luxurious throne surrounded by the trappings of power and wealth – weapons, treasures, and exquisite vessels. At the bottom of the composition are a skull and a snake, symbolizing betrayal, threat, and the dark side of power.
