Xacobeo, also known as the Year of Saint James, the Sacred Year or the Jubilee Year, is celebrated only when the day of the Apostle James, July 25, falls on a Sunday. This coincidence occurs at different intervals, every 5 or 6 years, and sometimes the Holy Year has to wait up to 11 years. Pope Calixtus II introduced the Year of Saint James in 1126. The Catholic Church has promised remission of all sins to those who make the pilgrimage to the tomb of the apostle during the Holy Year, which is known as “to merit forgiveness.”
The obverse on the right depicts a pilgrim, whose gaze is turned to the Cathedral of St. James, located at the top of the coin. Above it is the denomination “30 EURO”, the name of the coin “XACOBEO 21-22” is indicated vertically on the left, the mint mark is on the top right.
