Silver Coin 5 euro Latvia 2026 – Bridal Crown
€139.00 includes 24% VAT
The Bank of Latvia presents a new silver coin, “Bridal Crown,” decorated with crystals. In Latvian tradition, a wedding crown was more than just an ornament, but an important symbol of the bride’s transition to a new family and a new status in life. It emphasized the solemnity of the ceremony and often served as an indicator of the family’s wealth, as not everyone could afford such a luxurious adornment. Therefore, bridal crowns were often passed down through generations or borrowed for the ceremony.
In the 19th century, richly decorated crowns with glitter and colorful beads were especially prized in Southern Courland. As they moved, they shimmered and sparkled, creating a truly festive and majestic image of the bride.
The obverse of the coin depicts a luxurious bridal crown, adorned with crystals and elegant decorative elements. The reverse features lines from a Latvian folk song (“daina”) dedicated to wedding traditions and the beauty of a bridal wreath.
