The Mexican Libertad is a traditional investment coin that has long been one of the most recognizable among silver collectors. This issue combines elegant design, high investment appeal, and rich national symbolism. The Libertad is the official investment coin of the Bank of Mexico: unlike its counterparts from other countries, it does not have a fixed peso face value. Its face value is determined by the current market value of the precious metal.

The reverse depicts a winged woman, also known as the Angel of Independence. The statue itself crowns Mexico’s Victory Column in downtown Mexico City, erected in 1921 to commemorate the centennial of independence from Spanish rule. This image of freedom dates back to the Mexican Revolution of the 1820s. The background features a picturesque landscape featuring Mexico’s iconic volcanoes, Popocatépetl and Iztaccihuatl. The obverse of the coin features the national coat of arms: an eagle perched on a cactus, devouring a snake. Surrounding it are the country’s historical coats of arms, reflecting the development of its national symbolism over the years.
