Silver coin set Netherlands and Great Britain 2024 – 200th Anniversary of Marine Rescue Organizations
€235.00 includes 22% VAT
Royal Netherlands Sea Rescue Institution (KNRM) will celebrate its 200th anniversary in 2024. A similar organization serving the UK, the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), also shares the anniversary, celebrating its bicentenary this year.
Both organizations play a major role in water rescue operations. KNRM was founded in 1824 as an independent rescue organization. The principles that formed the basis of KNRM are still relevant today. This means that assistance is completely free, rescue work is carried out only by trained volunteers, and KNRM exists only on donations. The RNLI was officially founded in 1824 by Sir William Hillary. From wooden boats with oars and sails to the latest rescue boats equipped with the latest technology. Over 200 years, the RNLI has grown into a modern organization supported by donations from all over the UK. In total, the RNLI has saved more than 144,000 lives.
The set consists of two silver coins: the KNRM 200th Anniversary €5 silver coin and the RNLI 200th Anniversary 50p silver coin. The silver coin of the Royal Dutch Mint features an image of King Willem-Alexander on the obverse. The reverse depicts a stormy sea with waves carrying a lifeboat. By moving the coin at different angles, the sea seems to come to life. The Royal Mint silver coin features the effigy of His Majesty King Charles III on the obverse. The reverse features the RNLI flag surrounded by an orange lifebuoy.
