The Krugerrand is the most popular silver coin produced by the South African Mint. The name comes from the surname of the then President of South Africa – Paul Kruger. The second part of the name “rand” is the name of the South African currency. The coin was first issued in 1967, and since then its design has not changed much.

The obverse of the coin features the iconic portrait of Paul Kruger, while the reverse features a springbok antelope, symbolizing South African heritage.
