Coin Set – Ceylon

10.00

The set consists of three Ceylon (modern Sri Lanka) coins in denominations of 1, 5, and 10 cents. This is a colonial series of coins issued when the island was still under British rule. Minting years: 1944-1951.

The obverse of the coins features a portrait of King George VI. The reverses of the 5- and 10-cent coins contain the denomination and year of issue, while the 1-cent coin is adorned with an image of a coconut palm—one of Sri Lanka’s main natural symbols. The unusual coin shapes—square and with a floral, scalloped edge—make this series particularly expressive.

The presented coins were in circulation.
