2 euro Croatia 2026 – Vukovar Proof

The coin continues the series dedicated to prominent Croatian cities. This issue celebrates the city of Vukovar, Croatia’s largest port and cultural center on the Danube. Situated in the east of the country, at the junction of the historical regions of Syrmia and Slavonia, Vukovar boasts a rich, centuries-long history. For modern Croatia, this city holds a special, sacred significance: during the 1991 War of Independence, Vukovar withstood a brutal, months-long siege, becoming a key symbol of the national resilience and courage of the Croatian people.

The obverse of the coin depicts one of Vukovar’s main symbols – the famous water tower. Built in the late 1960s, it withstood hundreds of artillery strikes during the war and, despite severe damage, survived, becoming a national memorial to invincibility.
