The American innovative $ 1 coin representing New Hampshire celebrates Ralph Baer’s invention of the first home game console.

In 1966, Ralph Baer began researching how to play games on television. He and his team developed the Brown Box, the prototype of the first multiplayer, multi-software video game system. This paved the way for all subsequent video game systems. Today Baer is known as the “father of video games”.

The reverse depicts Ralph Baer playing Handball in the brown box on the right side of the coin. On the left side, the words “NEW HAMPSHIRE” and “PLAYER 1” are shown on the applied background. The inscriptions “IN-HOME VIDEO GAME SYSTEM” and “RALPH BAER” surround the coin in text that is meant to pay homage to Baer’s Odyssey. Additional inscription: UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The design also symbolizes the arcade token.

The obverse depicts the Statue of Liberty in profile with the words IN GOD WE TRUST and “$ 1”. The obverse also features a stylized gear representing industry and innovation.

Year of minting, mint mark and the inscription “E PLURIBUS UNUM” are applied to the edge of the coins.
