The black stork is a bird of the Ciconia family. It is listed in the Red Data Books of many countries. It inhabits the forested zones of Eurasia, tending to avoid humans. In Russia, the black stork inhabits the area from the Baltic Sea through the Urals and throughout southern Siberia to the Far East, including Sakhalin Island. A separate population lives in southern Russia, in the forests of Chechnya, Dagestan, and the Stavropol Territory.
