Coin set – Malawi

The set consists of nine Malawi coins in denominations of 1, 2, 5, 10, 20, and 50 tambala and 1, 5, and 10 kwacha. They are legal tender.

The design of Malawi’s coins reflects the country’s natural wealth and the important role of agriculture in its life. The coins depict native fauna—elephants, native birds, and Lake Malawi fish—as well as scenes related to the work and daily life of the population. The reverse side traditionally features the national coat of arms, symbolizing independence and national unity. Some issues also feature a portrait of former President Bakili Muluzi, who played a significant role in the country’s modern history.
