Coin set – Macedonia

The set consists of six Macedonian coins in denominations of 50 denis and 1, 2, 5, 10, and 50 denars. They are legal tender in the country, but the 50 denis coin was withdrawn from circulation in 2013 as part of a cash flow optimization program.

The design of the coin series highlights the country’s natural wealth. They depict characteristic representatives of the region’s fauna, such as the Sharplanina Shepherd, a traditional Balkan herding dog; the Ohrid trout, which inhabits the waters of the ancient Lake Ohrid; and the Balkan lynx, a rare and protected species. The image of a peacock complements the theme of natural diversity and ornamental beauty. A special place is occupied by the 50-denar coin, which depicts the Archangel Gabriel, symbolizing the good news and the region’s spiritual heritage.
