The reverse depicts a lion capital from the Ashoka Pillar in Sarnath—an outstanding example of ancient Indian art from the 3rd century BCE, which became the national emblem of India. The obverse of the coins contains the denomination, while the left side features stylized ears of grain, symbolizing the predominance of agriculture in the country.
