Coin set – Ethiopia

10.00

The set consists of six Ethiopian coins in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 25, 50 centimes, and 1 birr. The current design appeared after the 1977 reform , but this series of coins is part of the updated issues of the 2000s. It is the country’s legal tender.

The obverse of all coins depicts the head of a roaring Ethiopian (or Abyssinian) lion. The reverses share a common “idealistic design.” They depict farmers with plows and sickles, factory workers with hammers, soldiers with flags or weapons, as well as a nyala antelope and scales as a symbol of justice.
