Coin Set – Somalia

The set consists of five Somali coins in denominations of 1, 5, 5, 10, and 20 shillings. These coins are rarely used due to inflation, but are still official currency in the Somaliland region.

The obverse of the coin series depicts the region’s natural wealth, with images of a Somali pigeon, an elephant with a baby, a vervet monkey, and a greyhound. One of the 5-shilling coins features a portrait of Richard F. Burton, the eminent British explorer, geographer, ethnographer, and linguist. The reverses of the coins show their face value.
